And who would have guessed that a bunch of Houstonians would actually
enjoy an Apache sweat lodge... don't we already live in a sauna?

No one will ever forget the beauty of the coral reefs and the
excitement of the Crevalle Jack and Blackfin Tuna caught by each boat --
not to mention the barracudas!

Brief History of Crew 505
|
Venturing Crew 505, chartered to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church,
is part of the Golden Arrow District of the Sam Houston Area Council --
one of the largest Scout councils in the nation.
The number "505" was chosen because Boy Scout Troop 505 and Cub Scout
Pack 505 are also chartered to St. Vincent de Paul.
To really trace the roots of Venturing, one has to go way back.
The first Senior Scout program in the United States was Sea Scouting,
founded in 1912. Over the years, other programs came and went
to meet the needs of high school and college age youth.
The Senior Scout programs of the 1930's and 1940's gave way to the
Explorer programs of the 1950's and the Exploring program of the 1960's;
in fact, there was an Explorer Post 505 chartered to St. Vincent de Paul
for many years!
The Explorer advancement program included the Bronze Award,
the Gold Award, and the Silver Award. Sound familiar?
In the 1960's Exploring began to turn more toward career emphasis,
and in the 1970's Exploring went co-ed.
Finally, in 1998 Exploring was split into two separate programs:
Learning for Life and Venturing.
Since its first charter in October 2001, Venturing Crew 505
has grown to its present membership of over 20 youth.
